LETTER: Costs add up

Here we go again.

I have a lot that my parents had a home and paid taxes on for 50 years, a home that I was raised and lived in for 18 years.

A home that my husband and I rented for 10 years and paid taxes on.

I had the house removed so that, one day, I would put two tiny homes on it, making one a rental.

The city informed us that, no, we could only have an accessory dwelling unit behind a stick-built home.

I met with contractors and city personnel. The cost and process and time did not add up to what would be logical.

Now, we are going to get charged for utilities for nothing on the lot? Yet, the city needs housing?

What’s the difference? What is this city afraid of? Why do they have to shut people down?

I wanted a childcare center in a business location, but no, I had to fight for it.

I wanted a childcare center in a residential location, but no, again I had to fight for it.

After putting years into working to improve this community through helping children and families, I see no common sense to this entire situation.

I have always been able to think outside the box.

The city needs to realize there are a lot of possibilities, but bleeding money out of people who have done right is not the way the world should work.
