LETTER: Crescent levies

Crescent School District residents have or will soon have an important ballot arrive.

Use your yes vote to show your support for the incredible teachers and students in our community.

There will be two proposed levies.

One is an educational programs and operations (EP&O) and the other is a capital projects levy.

The EP&O levy is vital to the district in funding basic services like nursing, special education, technology upgrades, music, shop, field trips, after school support, staff training and food services.

Our community continues to support the programs that not only educate but inspire our students to explore and develop skills for life.

The capital projects levy has allowed the district to make significant physical improvements to our facilities.

There are highly visible remodels of the band room, cafeteria, gym foyer, locker rooms and a new playshed roof.

A new generator will soon be installed.

This replacement levy will need to focus on some infrastructure that isn’t as visible but essential to keeping our grounds and buildings safe and sound, while extending the usability of some aging buildings.

Some of the projects include roofing for the shop, plumbing for the library/office building, HVAC systems, drainage, playground blacktop, and some additional safety and security upgrades.

We all know deferring maintenance is a big risk with a place that plays such a critical role in our community.

Please join me in voting yes and getting your ballot in the mail or in the ballot box by Feb. 13.
