Democracy in peril
Today America is just where President George Washington predicted at the beginning of his second term.
Political parties were starting, and some were asking Washington to join their party.
Washington was totally against political parties; he predicted that, sooner or later, the parties would only vote along party lines, partisanship. He said we would forget about America and only think about what the parties wanted.
America is about We The People, per George Washington, not political parties.
I’m shocked, afraid and fearful of America’s future to what is happening these days.
It seems to me that, for the first time in my life, we have a president who is taking democracy down a rabbit hole.
Attacking our neighbors, Canada and Mexico. Disrespecting and wanting to take over other countries. Siding with Putin.
This isn’t making America great, this is having the opposite effect.
We, the people, need to stand up for democracy. What is happening right now isn’t right.
I say this as an American, a veteran and a person who knows history.
As Roosevelt said in WWII, “We (America) must be the great arsenal of Democracy.”
