Doorbelled for Doherty
I doorbelled Sunday for Mike Doherty, candidate for the Clallam County Commission representing District 3 from the west side of Port Angeles out to Forks, LaPush, and Neah Bay.
One young man working on his pickup told me he is a police officer and knows Doherty.
He and his wife both vowed to vote for him.
My wife and I joined 30 people who marched with Doherty in the Forks Old Time Fourth of July Parade this year.
He was carrying a “Mike Doherty” yard sign.
Every step, Doherty was greeted with applause from constituents sitting along the parade route.
They remember Doherty’s three terms as a Clallam commissioner working to provide health care for veterans, jobs, equal rights for women and minorities and defense of our environment.
If you admire our restored Clallam County Courthouse and new additions, thank Mike Doherty.
Doherty also deserves thanks for his role in the completion of the Elwha bridge funded by Clallam County, the Lower Elwha Klallams, Washington State and the National Parks, a link in the Olympic Discovery Trail.
The Republicans whip up extreme partisanship in service to billionaires who pour “dark money” into GOP campaign coffers.
Yet I remember when Democratic commissioners, Doherty and Steve Tharinger, reached across the aisle to then-Republican commissioner, Mike Chapman.
The nation was in recession, yet Doherty and his fellow commissioners fully funded every vital public service program and always balanced the budget.
We need that “can do” spirit in Clallam County today. Elect Mike Doherty.
