In a March 21 letter to the Peninsula Daily News, a writer stated, “We don’t blame the automobile for car crashes and try to ban it.”
I’m sure the writer is aware that, to own and operate a motor vehicle one must pass a driver’s test, obtain a driver’s license and register and insure the vehicle.
It’s the law, and almost all of us agree that these laws regulating vehicle ownership and use are necessary.
We don’t pretend that these laws will ever eliminate car accidents, but I think that most of us agree that they reduce the toll of death and injuries, and they help to keep our roads from falling into chaos.
Surely it should be possible, in a civilized society, to consider enacting similar laws to regulate the ownership and use of firearms.
