LETTER: Endorses Steve Chinn

I first met Steve Chinn over 34 years ago when I was a member of the Sequim School Board.

He served as an elementary teacher and our head wrestling coach.

Steve had 21 years of exemplary service with the Sequim schools.

In 1993, he became a volunteer firefighter-emergency medical technician with Clallam County Fire District 3.

As the District 3 fire chief, I had direct contract with Steve on a regular basis for many years.

He was eventually promoted to captain and later worked as the volunteer coordinator after my retirement.

In July 2016, the fire commissioners appointed Steve to fill the commissioner seat that was vacated by Richard Houts.

I have been following Steve’s progress as the interim board member.

He has done an excellent job in this position.

Steve is conscientious, an excellent communicator and has a sincere interest to represent the community in a fair way.

In knowing two sides of Steve, first as a teacher and then as a firefighter, he has always gone over and above to do well for the schools as well as the fire district.

He has been a role model for our kids and a leader in the fire service.

As Steve runs for the commissioner seat in November, I would like to share my support for him.

Steve will do an excellent job for the staff, the district and the community.

Tom Lowe,

Sequim
