LETTER: Harris better for economy

Some voters believe Donald Trump is a better choice for economic growth. But his policy proposals will be devastating.

Trump plans to impose 10 percent to 20 percent tariffs on all imported goods and much higher tariffs on goods from China.

He famously says that China will pay them.

Trump is wrong.

Tariffs are paid by the importer: Walmart, Costco or Target, for example. These companies will simply pass the cost on to all of us by raising prices.

What Trump is promising is an immediate 10 percent to 20 percent price increase on things we buy every day.

Imagine taking the ferry to Victoria and buying all sorts of nice things: clothing, jewelry and maybe a few bottles of your favorite spirit.

When you get back to the U.S., you’ll have to declare everything you bought in Canada and pay import duty.

What do you suppose would happen if you just told the officer that Canada is paying it as you grab your stuff and head for the door?

Trump’s tariffs will cost the average American family thousands of dollars every year, hitting hardest on those least able to afford it.

The Biden/Harris administration has brought inflation under control, and now Trump promises skyrocketing price increases.

Is Trump truly proposing trillions of dollars in new import taxes with no understanding of who will pay for it? Or is he simply lying to the American voters?

Kamala Harris is a far better choice for the economy.
