LETTER: Help animals

While it’s informal, representing only those taking it, I’m disappointed with the results of the May 11 PDN readers’ poll: “Have you ever considered adopting from or serving as a foster family for the humane societies of Clallam or Jefferson counties?”

Of 538 people; 65.56 percent said no, 19.21 percent said yes to adopt, 6.62 percent said yes to foster and 8.61 percent said yes to both.

This is disappointingly low and can’t represent our area.

There’s no good reason not to adopt from a shelter/rescue.

By adopting, you’re saving the life of the pet you adopt and another life by making room for more rescues.

Buying pets from backyard breeders who breed animals for profit, or getting your pet from someone whose animal had babies, encourages irresponsibility.

Your action has consequences for pets brought into a world with too many unwanted, abandoned animals.

Adopting is cost effective, including spay/neuter, shots and vet exam.

Adoption fees help the rescue/shelter be able to offer programs like low-cost spay/neuter help.

Olympic Peninsula Humane Society is desperate for adoptions and foster homes.

Peninsula Friends of Animals, Center Valley Animal Rescue, Jefferson Humane Society and Spay to Save need help too. Adopt. Foster. Volunteer. Donate.

There is no better feeling than helping an animal in need.

Please help them. They are depending on us.

There is no better feeling than helping an animal in need.
