I have noted with interest recent letters and rants in the Peninsula Daily News concerning the Port Angeles School District’s capital levy, passed in 2020 with 54 percent approval.
Like the writers of those rants and letters, my tax bill increased this year by a little more than 20 percent.
Unlike the sentiments expressed in most of the letters and rants, though, I do not feel a sense of anger or unfairness associated with that increase.
Instead, I feel a sense of value and believe that those dollars will be well spent, creating community infrastructure that will have far-reaching benefits.
With that money, we will create buildings that we can be proud of as we pass by during our day-to-day business in Port Angeles, rooms that will serve us during election caucuses and community events, work spaces that will motivate a sense of pride among teachers and school staff, classrooms where families in Port Angeles will feel safe sending their children and learning environments that children will feel comfortable in during the duration of their long student careers.
Money well spent, indeed.
