I would like to respond to the May 17 letter, “Parade complaint,” on what the writer said was a lack of a color guard in the May 13 Sequim Irrigation Festival Grand Parade.
I did not see the entire parade, as I was on the Marine Corps League/Toys for Tots entry.
We always display the American flag as well as the Marine Corps colors.
All along the parade route, I noticed countless people of all ages standing, saluting, hats off, hands over hearts.
Whether they were honoring our flag, thanking us for our service or both, it was a heartwarming sign of respect and very welcomed.
Since moving from a large city, I have been blown away by the huge amount of patriotism and support for veterans that abounds on our North Olympic Peninsula.
If, indeed, the Boy Scouts appeared to look a bit less neat [with “shirt half out,” as the letter writer said], then a bit of training and a stint in the military will cure that.
