I moved to Sequim to enjoy a cottage garden without drought concerns.
I didn’t know it was the best climate for growing everything.
An additional blessing is horticulturist Andrew May, who writes “A Growing Concern” column in the Peninsula Daily News specifically for this unique region.
Most syndicated columns generalize, but not Andrew’s local column.
With master gardener training, I figured I was set.
Wrong.
Every season each year is different due to climate changes, weather patterns and whatever.
I don’t have to worry, Andrew has me covered.
He’s an incredible writer, a wealth of knowledge and has a wicked sense of humor filled with puns galore.
His writing covers organic/sustainable gardening, the when, what and why of various additives, and how to save labor — time in order to enjoy the beauty — time in our gardens.
Andrew’s May Day column prompted me to write this thank you.
With horticulture-educated parents, working in the greenhouse as a child and spending his life in this field, he knows the exterior, landscape and plant-life design inside and out.
To pen an article with background on May Day with details and a sense of humor like he did is genius, really, pure genius.
With cookie-cutter columns filled with incorrect, inappropriate and inconsequential information, it’s refreshing to read his column.
It’s relevant, thought provoking and entertaining.
Thank you Andrew for sharing your gifts and educating us.
Our friends, family, neighbors and tourists who view our slice of heaven thank you.
More importantly, our plants, pets and planet Earth thank you.
