The Eye on Congress column in the PDN on Feb. 17, was in fact a real eye-opener.
Why is it not news, people?
The ERA states: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”
It has never been ratified.
To date the necessary 38 states have not signed on.
“Voting 232-183, the House on Thursday., Feb. 13, adopted a measure (HR Res 79) that would advanced the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the Constitution by replacing a long-expired deadline for states on ratification with an open-ended deadline.”
The most recent deadline expired in 1982.
Rep. Derek Kilmer voted for the HR Res. 79 to go forward.
Thank you, sir.
The House can now forward the resolution to the Senate to renew an open-ended deadline allowing time to complete this long overdue and critical legislation.
Here’s praying it does not languish in the black hole on Mitch McConnell’s desk.
