LETTER: Personal qualities make McComas strong candidate

As a health care provider in Jefferson County I understand the importance of our hospital board of commissioners.

As citizens, it is vital that we vote to support our values, one of which is to ensure we have a healthy community.

Others have detailed Bruce McComas’ many qualifications.

Although those qualities are essential for this position, he also possesses others that are equally important for anyone representing the public.

I know Bruce personally.

He is honorable, compassionate, humble, patient and enduring.

Over the last several years, I watched as Bruce managed his life with courage and grace.

His wife Teri, his lifelong companion and soul mate, died after a protracted illness.

Bruce and Teri’s journey was not a sprint; it was a marathon.

Many of the skills Bruce used then to navigate the healthcare system provided him valuable insight into the needs of many in our community.

This has been evident in his ongoing work with several vital Jefferson Healthcare volunteer committees, including the Patient Financial Experience Task Force.

This has resulted in Jefferson Healthcare committing to changing several policies, one of which makes anyone in the county whose income is 400 percent of poverty level eligible for 100 percent charity care.

Bruce McComas’ community history, his well-respected management skills and his personal strengths will benefit us all when he becomes our hospital commissioner.

Please join me in voting for Bruce McComas for hospital commissioner.
