LETTER: Pickens for state rep

Eric Pickens has my vote for state House of Representatives, 24th Legislative District, Position 1.

I have come to know Eric during my service on the Sequim School Board.

As president of the board, Eric has led with integrity, intelligence and empathy.

The president of the school board sets the tone for how things will run.

Eric has set a clear tone of respect, not only for fellow board members but for every community member, staff person, teacher, parent and student who has come before the board.

Eric is a good listener and knows how to work on a team to get things done.

He shows leadership as a problem-solver, blending practicality and idealism.

To be effective in this political climate, these skills and values are essential.

I am confident that Eric will bring these same qualities to Olympia as a strong advocate for our district and our schools.

These are challenging times for education.

But he also knows the need for adequate housing, for jobs that pay, and for affordable, accessible health care.

As a contributing member of our community, Eric understands the issues here in our region.

From his service in the Coast Guard to his leadership on the Sequim School Board, Eric is all about community and public service.

We need Eric Pickens in Olympia.
