LETTER: Port Angeles Boat Haven’s deterioration a black eye on this community

My wife and I moved to Port Angeles in 1964. At that time, this was a vibrant, beautiful city, with all the logging and fishing and many businesses.

We had one of the best-looking boat havens on the West Coast.

Back in the 1960s, a staff photographer from Eastman Kodak Film Co. spent a day and a half photographing our Port Angeles Boat Haven for an instructional book.

My wife and I drove through the boat haven at least twice a week for many years.

Before she passed away on Feb. 12, she had expressed her disbelief at the condition of the boat haven.

Now, the docks are nice but most all the fishing boats are gone.

The parking area is full of potholes, and the road to the office is all dug up and also full of potholes.

They have been this way for quite some time.

Why doesn’t the Port of Port Angeles, or those responsible for the boat haven’s upkeep, do something?

This is definitely a black eye on our great little community.

Chuck McGilvra,

Port Angeles
