There is a story about Abraham Lincoln engaging in a debate when his opponent did not get the point that Lincoln was making.
The story goes something like this: Lincoln posed a question using this line of reasoning — how many legs does a cow have?
Four, said the man who now thought he was scoring points in the debate.
Then Lincoln asked how many legs would the cow have if its tail were a leg.
Five, was the answer from his learned opponent.
Then, Lincoln is said to have made his point.
No, a cow can have only four legs, reasoning that calling it a leg doesn’t make it one.
Lincoln has been dead for about 150 years.
Reason and common sense appears to have died with him.
There is a five-legged cow in the policies of the Port Angeles School Board and they don’t get it.
I am referring to their acceptance of the FLASH curriculum, including the current fad believing a biological boy can be a girl and vice-versa.
I believe sex is determined by genetics, not by current fads.
The concept of “transgender” exists only in the mind, not in reality.
The school board should change its policies.
Recently, the Sequim School District rejected the sexual health program known as FLASH (PDN, March 3, “Sexual health program halted”).
Staff told the board the material was neither age appropriate nor completely scientifically accurate.
I agree.
Science is only of value when it is free of bias and observational error.
The transgender fad suffers from both.
The Port Angeles school board should reject FLASH.
