Kudos to the citizens of Port Angeles and City Council for displaying the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe flag in council chambers.
Also a hearty thank you to those responsible for returning traditional sites to their original Klallam names.
Let us keep up the momentum and rename Hollywood Beach, which was once an important beach settlement for Klallam people and, more recently, serves as a gathering place for the tribal youth-oriented neighboring tribes’ annual canoe journey.
The Klallam people have lived here for thousands of years and it’s time we begin to show respect and honor to the culture which has helped make Port Angeles and the North Olympic Peninsula so very special.
