Praise for Kailin
Dr. Eloise Kailin was a witty, creative, highly intelligent person who helped shape Clallam County, including Sequim and Port Angeles cities, and save them from themselves.
Not only an icon and mentor to many who knew and worked with her but she was a humanist in the largest sense of the word.
When her patients were too ill to come to see her, she brought their medications, even food if needed, to them.
Not only was she prominent stopping the twin nuclear power plant at Diamond Point but she also fought a proposed oil port there.
Can you imagine the environmental and health impacts to Clallam and Jefferson counties if those projects had succeeded?
She sought good governance.
Opposed to Sequim city’s mayoral-elect model, she was influential in changing its model to what exists today — a city-manager form of government.
She cleverly designed her 15-year campaign to end Port Angeles’ fluoride water pollution and, simultaneously, successfully helped stop smart meter plans.
When the John Wayne Marina was built, she gained concessions protecting part of the bay for wildlife.
She had Clallam County redesign a bridge to better withstand scouring damage.
She immensely strengthened Clallam County’s critical area ordinance.
Her court battles were endless until governments did right by their constituents.
Thank you, Eloise, for your work, and years of friendship, mentoring and support.
