LETTER: Response to missing man seems highly inadequate

My sincere sympathy goes to Richard Jones of Sequim, who was missing for almost five days recently [“Driver Survives Five Days Trapped In Car,” Feb. 28 PDN], and deep sympathy for his wife.

I am very curious as to what information his wife gave to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office when she reported him missing.

If she gave them any reason to believe her husband might have abruptly decided to skip town without telling anybody, then the apparent nonchalance of Sheriff Bill Benedict may have been justified.

But unless that was the case, they needed to assume that her husband was in trouble.

And the only right response to this would be to do exactly what they know they would do if it was their loved one who went to the store one night and didn’t come back.

I don’t gamble, but if I did, I’d bet a lot of money that if this was the case, there would have been a much different response.

Sequim
