The Port Townsend comprehensive plan is being finalized.
It may well be used to change the zoning of the land along Blaine Street that is currently the southern part of the golf park.
This move would be done in spite of the obvious wishes of the citizenry that occurred at last year’s public involvement process in which retaining the golf park was head and shoulders above housing for that beautiful open space.
Since the mayor announced in a city council meeting that housing on that land would be market value, expensive and upscale, instead of affordable, there has been elevated disdain for the idea of destroying the golf course for housing that would be for wealthy people only.
If the idea of lining the pockets of real estate and development interests by essentially destroying the golf course, and the view of the open space is unacceptable for you, write or call the mayor and city manager to express your demand that the wishes of the people expressed in the last public involvement process be honored.
