They say good things come in threes, and that is certainly true for the law in Clallam County.
We have three outstanding justice system candidates on the election ballot: Bill Benedict, sheriff; Mark Nichols, prosecuting attorney; and Dave Neupert, the best choice for Clallam County District Court 1 judge.
I’ve watched Neupert for years as he has worked as an attorney and as a judge, he is no-nonsense but unfailingly fair, tactful, patient and even-handed.
In addition, Neupert has demonstrated character and leadership outside the courtroom through thousands of hours of community service as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Peninsula Behavioral Health, United Way and the Peninsula College Foundation.
Benedict is in the same mode: honest, intelligent, approachable, level-headed and community-focused.
He’s made sure every tax dollar buys efficiency and effectiveness.
Because of Benedict’s leadership, Clallam County is the only county in Washington with its jail and operations accredited by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, meeting more than 100 best-practice standards.
Nichols is a very capable, honest and battle-tested prosecutor.
He has protected the community by increasing felony case filings by more than 10 percent over the past four years and decreasing felony cases previously being declined for prosecution by nearly 20 percent.
He’s also created new crime victim services and promoted respectful and thoughtful countywide dialogue about homelessness and mental health.
Experience matters and people count, and Neupert, Benedict and Nichols prove this every day.
Please join me in voting for them.
