Now that I have retired after more than four decades of public service both at the city, state and county levels, this new status allows me the opportunity to reflect on all of the impactful mentors and leaders that I have had the pleasure of serving alongside.
One of those leaders that I count myself fortunate to have served with is Port Angeles Mayor Kate Dexter, who is in the midst of running for election for a seat on the Clallam County Board of Commissioners, a role which I find her uniquely qualified for given her ability to identify solutions and deliver services for her constituents.
Often we hear those running talking about how they’re for the hot-button issues of the day, such as affordable housing or increased employment opportunities. Well, I have witnessed Kate roll up her sleeves to actually accomplish zoning and building fee waiver legislation, allowing for increased affordable housing in Port Angeles, and leading efforts to find new employment and no-cost workforce training opportunities for those displaced by the McKinley Mill closure.
Kate possesses that Kennedyesque passion for public and constituent service while also having the legislative temperament to work well with others at all levels of government to deliver benefits to those she serves.
For these reasons, I wholeheartedly endorse and support Kate Dexter for Clallam County commissioner and urge others to join me in this effort.
