LETTER: Thank you for your coverage on public land legislation without taxpayer benefit

Many thanks to the Peninsula Daily News and “Outdoors” columnist Michael Carman for publishing information on federal legislation — H.R. 621 on Feb. 2 [“Proposed Public Lands Sale of No Benefit to Taxpayers”] and H.R. 622 on Feb. 9 [“Halibut Quote Grows in 2017”] — that affects public lands.

Thankfully, H.R. 621, which would have given away a huge amount of public land, has been pulled from the legislative process.

H.R. 622, which would take law enforcement out of some public lands, also needs to be pulled.

We treasure our public lands.

Think of what the North Olympic Peninsula would be like without the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge, Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest.

Public lands are for all of us, and they need to be preserved and enhanced, not diminished in any way.
