Supports Croonquist
It is with great hope and anticipation by many sports fishermen that Governor Jay Inslee will approve the appointment of Dave Croonquist to the Washington Wildlife Commission.
Not only is Croonquist superbly qualified, but he will bring a much needed sports fishermen’s voice to the WDFW.
I have known Croonquist for over 10 years and can testify to his unquestionable professionalism, ethics and integrity, which he would bring to the WDFW.
The WDFW historically has never been in great support of the state’s sport fishing.
The policies and rules governing salmon and halibut fishing is a mess of contradictions.
A good example is the halibut fishing season, which is impossible to plan for or figure out as quotas, opening and closing days are changing every year.
The salmon fishing quotas are subject to change at any time during the short openings.
The captured fish counting methods are completely subjective and outdated.
The Canadian system, rules and regulations seems to work much better and fishing in Canadian waters is becoming very popular.
The WDFW should appreciate the millions of dollars it collects and then waste from the state’s fishermen.
Croonquist’s appointment will bring common sense experience to the commission.
