I think it is the duty of every citizen to watch the congressional hearings about the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
If you truly support our U.S. Constitution and the rule of law, I urge you to use those principles, and your critical thinking skills as you listen.
It will be painful to hear some of the facts and evidence, especially if they contradict what you’ve been hearing elsewhere.
No one likes to realize that they have been conned.
But this country cannot begin to heal unless we can admit that we were constantly fed fantasies by our former president and his accomplice network.
And it was these total fabrications that instigated the anger and violence on Jan. 6 that nearly brought down our republic.
Are there things that make us all angry at Congress’s dysfunction, furious that some elected officials are not listening to the majority of us?
Yes, absolutely.
Why not focus that anger at a major culprit: the corporate money that promotes the disinformation, funds the PACs, and pushes backroom deals with our lawmakers?
What if we directed our energy at changing the laws that let the wealthy buy elections, laws that create the obscene inequities that keep working people on the knife edge of survival?
Let’s leave the fantasies and their fabricators behind, examine some of the root causes of our political dysfunction, and make sure it is the people, not Big Money, that decide who will represent us.
