LETTER: Yes on PASD measures

Dear Port Angeles voters, please vote yes on Proposition 1 and Proposition 2 in support of the renewal of the Port Angeles School District EP&O levy and a capital bond to replace Franklin Elementary and Port Angeles High School.

The bond and levy are replacing existing levies that are expiring, so the local tax rate will not increase when these levies pass. The levies are essential for maintaining and replacing buildings in our district.

Another way to support schools in the district is to vote for Jaime Herrera-Butler for state Commissioner of Public Lands and Randy Johnson for county commissioner.

These candidates have committed to supporting the state Department of Natural Resources in funding junior taxing districts such as PASD through the sustainable harvest of timber on DNR-managed lands.

According to the Nov. 5 draft Board of Natural Resources fact sheet, three timber sales will be auctioned in December that will support PASD. The department expects these sales to generate minimum bids of $3,411,166.

Assuming a successful bid, benefits will include a minimum of $1,119,280 for the Port Angeles School District.

Other beneficiaries of the sales include Clallam County Fire District #2, the North Olympic Library System, Clallam County Hospital District #1 and the William Shore Memorial Pool.
