LETTER:Opposes oyster farm

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe has done a remarkable job of improving conditions for themselves.

Their investments in Blyn and the return of much county property stolen from them decades ago is admirable.

However, they are now seeking permission for a commercial oyster operation in Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge.

Such an operation will disturb wildlife, damage the tranquility, and add pollution to a dedicated pristine area.

It is much like oil and natural gas operations surrounding Bear’s Ears National Monument in Utah.

I certainly hope the tribe reconsiders, because I doubt the permitting agency will deny their application, since the medical treatment facility in Sequim was approved over much public resistance.

If they do proceed, perhaps they should no longer describe themselves as “Stewards of the Earth.”
