The Kirner family followed the appropriate civic process applying for a permit to reopen the historic gravel pit on Happy Valley Road.
There were many issues to be considered reopening this mining operation and they should have been addressed at the public hearing scheduled Sept. 7.
This civil process was upended by anonymous threats to the family including shots fired at the family home.
No matter what one’s concerns were about the reopening of the gravel pit, the legal process should have been respected.
The anonymous cowardly threats enacted toward this family are precisely the bullying behaviors which are destroying our democratic process.
The Kirner family is owed profound apologies for being subjected to this verbal and physical violence.
