LETTERS: Creating own reality?

When I was a kid growing up in South Dakota, I remember a story about a man telling someone how he was so drunk he lost control of his car. And when he realized he was going to hit a tree, he stepped on the gas.

We have been reminded of this insanity every time we see groups of Donald Trump supporters without masks appearing to embrace coronavirus at Republican events, including Trump’s final rally that provoked organized followers to riot and storm the Capitol.

Right-wing extremists whose violent actions were witnessed by millions worldwide through television have for many years proposed the Second Amendment was created to protect them against a government that would someday be out to get them.

Talk about creating your own reality.
