LETTER:Speaking about guns

I’m wondering about the source of the statistic mentioned in the Aug. 5 Speaking Out section 2023 asking about the 400 mass killings this year in the U.S. and what should be done.

Interestingly, seven out of eight respondents assumed guns were responsible for the appalling number.

The responses were diverse and some appear to use common sense.

Gun-free zones don’t work.

Teach kids about morals and firearms at an early age in the home.

Guns in the wrong hands is the cause.

Focus on mental health issues and services.

Don’t infringe on 2nd Amendment rights.

Then there were the comments right out of the radical Left’s playbook.

AR 15s are not needed.

Assuming AR 15s are automatic when they are actually semi-automatic.

Need more gun control, on top of all the gun control that’s already not working, and stricter licensing.

Also offer money to turn them in, seemingly as in government buybacks; only the government never sold them in the first place.

Banning automatic guns which are already banned except for a legal process to own one.

And then, all a person needs is a shotgun.

Reminiscent of when President Joe Biden was vice-president and ranted about having a shotgun for self-defense instead of an AR 15 in a Feb. 20, 2013 interview by Parents Magazine on YouTube.

Most suggestions show how indoctrinated the uninformed are about firearms by the liberals’ citizen disarmament movement that always seems to use shocking statistics for attention.
