PORT TOWNSEND — Gary Wessen will present “The Origins of Maritime Sailing” at 7 p.m. Friday.
The lecture is in the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St.
Wessen will discuss some of the anthropological ideas about cultural adaptations to maritime environments, a summary of currently available evidence and what it suggests about the antiquity of maritime activity.
Wessen holds a doctorate in anthropology from Washington State University and has worked as an anthropological consultant for 50 years.
