Art in motion

PORT TOWNSEND — JES Schumacher and her husband Jim celebrated the Fourth of July in a unique way by taking her son Kristian Brevik’s art piece out for a day on the water.

Brevik is currently earning his doctorate in entomology in Vermont but has long been an artist in Port Townsend.

“Sparky,” the red orca affixed to this kayak, is made from fabric coated in marine lacquer and illuminated from the inside.
