First Friday Art Walk celebrates fall in Sequim

SEQUIM — The Blue Whole Gallery is one stop on the First Friday Art Walk in Sequim tonight.

Featured artists Carol Janda, a potter and painter, and Debbie Cain, a gourd artist, will be available to meet the public from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at the gallery at 129 W. Washington St., which is routinely open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Their show, “Gentle and Tranquil,” is “filled with the magic of nature,” organizers said.

Said Janda: “Art has been a lifetime blessing from childhood to my years at Glacier Bay, Alaska, during long dark winters and now during these stay-at-home days.”

Cain said she often is inspired by Southwest Native American motifs.

“When I did my first gourd about 20 years ago, I was totally captivated and very excited to explore the possibilities on this new 3D canvas,” she said.

First Friday Art Walk in Sequim is a free, self-guided tour of local art venues from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the first Friday of each month.

The color theme this month is brown, representative of warm hearth and harvest, said First Friday organizer Renne Emiko Brock.

COVID-19 health guidelines of masks, social distancing and limited capacity are in place.

Here are some of the special events.

• Pacific Mist, which has a new location at 122 W. Washington St., features Jean Wyatt, a whimsical Sequim artist who envisions everyday things like domestic living, classic trucks, nature and sports being done by birds, cats and other animals.

• “Bumblebunching — Warped, Twisted & Imperfect” exhibit and fiber arts demonstrations continue at the Sequim Museum & Arts, 544 N. Sequim Ave.

• Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s Sequim Habitat Boutique Store at 213 E. Washington St. offers live music by The OG from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and features paintings by Craig Robinson, a Sequim Art Council member.

• Wind Rose Cellars, at 143 W. Washington St., offers its wines with appetizers and hosts local artists.

• Rainshadow Café, at 157 W. Cedar St., has lots of seating outside and inside with a full menu and drinks.

• Sequim Spice and Tea, at 139 W. Washington St., is open until 8 p.m. with tea blends, colorful teapots and cups and other culinary gifts.

• Cedarbrook Lavender Gift Shop, at 120 W. Washington St., has lavender creations, treats, locally created gifts and décor items.

• A Stitch in Time Quilt Shoppe, at 225 E. Washington St., displays local quilters’ work corresponding with the monthly color theme.

The store encourages people with a quilt they made that coincides with the designated color to drop them off at their shop the day of the walk with their label and info attached to their quilt.
