PORT ANGELES — The Michael Trebert Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Clallam County Veterans Association will retire American flags during a public ceremony at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The annual ceremony is at the Northwest Veterans Resource Center, 216 S. Francis St.
The DAR’s Junior American Citizens Club and local veterans will be retiring and burning 100 percent cotton flags that have been turned in at the veterans center over the past year.
Port Angeles Legion Riders, Post 29, will provide a flag line while the flags are retired.
The retirement is in accordance with 4 U.S.C. §1,that states “the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
