The DAISY Foundation has recognized Marie Flanagan with its DAISY award. Flanagan is a registered nurse on the medical/surgical unit at Olympic Medical Center. The award recognizes extraordinary, compassionate care provided to patients and families. The foundation, which takes its name from the acronym Diseases Attacking the Immune System, was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of the auto-immune disease idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
