Free public Thanksgiving feasts planned on Peninsula

Meals planned in communities across area

Free community feasts are planned on the North Olympic Peninsula on Thanksgiving Day and on days leading up to the annual holiday.

On Wednesday — Thanksgiving Eve — there will be three community-wide free feasts, one in Port Angeles, one in Port Townsend and one in Brinnon.

Two more Thursday meals have been added to the Peninsula’s holiday offerings.

These include a public meal hosted by Serenity House in Port Angeles, where a void was created when the free Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Queen of Angels church was canceled because organizers were unable to find a coordinator, ending an 11-year tradition.

WEDNESDAY MEALS

Salvation Army

PORT ANGELES — The Salvation Army will serve a free community meal from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The meal will be at the soup kitchen building, 123 S. Peabody St.

Mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, turkey, green beans and pie will be served.

Last year, the Salvation Army fed about 180 people at its Thanksgiving Eve feast.

Volunteers are welcome.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to call Jessica Guthrie at 360-452-7679.

St. Paul’s Church

PORT TOWNSEND — St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The free dinner, now in its 11th year, will be served in the parish hall, 1020 Jefferson St.

Meat eaters, as well as vegans and vegetarians, can partake in a traditional hot meal with homemade desserts and conversation at this community-wide event.

The dinner is made possible by parishioners and community members who donate food, cash and their time, according to a press release.

St. Paul’s usually offers its “Just Soup” lunch service Wednesdays, but the full meal will replace the lunch service.

For more information, call 360-385-0770 or email stpauls_pt@outlook.com.

Brinnon Community

BRINNON — A free Thanksgiving community dinner is planned from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The gathering, which is open to the public, will be held at 2321 W. 18th St.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite side dish. People can also bring cooked turkey as the organization is out of room for turkeys that it has to cook.

Donations and volunteers are welcome.

Organizers will also accept donations of coats, clothing and socks for Serenity House during the event.

United Methodist

SEQUIM — A traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church is fully booked, according to organizers.

As of Monday, the church had filled its reservation list and is no longer accepting names.

The free dinner is part of Trinity’s community dinner program.

Dinners normally are served on the last Thursday of each month, but because of other holiday-season activities, there will be no dinner in December.
