Chili cook-off
FORKS — The Hungry Bear Cafe will host its 16th annual Bear Creek Chili Cook-Off potluck all day Saturday.
Games for children, free hot dogs and hamburgers, and live music are planned at the cook-off at milepost 206 on U.S. Highway 101 near Beaver.
Cooks can set up anytime after 8 a.m. Cooking will begin at noon after all registered cooks have gathered for a meeting.

Audition dates
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Playhouse will hold auditions for its production of “Heisenburg” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Auditions will be at the playhouse at 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
The play, directed by Jim Dries, chronicles the meeting of two very different individuals who find a connection despite their differences. It contains very strong adult language and situations.
Two roles are available: a man age 60 to 75 and a woman age 40 to 55.
Rehearsals will begin in mid-January.
Performances will run beginning Feb. 23-25, continue March 2-4 and conclude March 9-11.

PORT ANGELES — Silver Spurs 4-H will partner with the Airport Garden Center to raise money in support of animal rescue teams in Texas this Saturday.
All proceeds from the event, slated from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Airport Garden Center at 2200 Edgewood Drive, will go toward helping rescue and reunite animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey.

PORT ANGELES — Parents can sign up for a visit to the Washington Dental Service Foundation’s SmileMobile.
The SmileMobile, which travels the state offering dental services to children who might not otherwise have access to dental care, will be in Port Angeles from Monday through Sept. 22.
Staffed with a clinic manager, dentist and dental assistant, the SmileMobile will be parked at Jefferson Elementary School, 218 E. 12th St.
Examinations will be provided to children from birth up through high school age. Treatment appointments will be provided the duration of the stay.
