JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Get a live music fix across Peninsula

WHAT A COUNTRY we live in! We gain an hour of evening daylight Sunday, spring arrives a week later, and sandwiched in between is the corned beef and cabbage of St. Patrick’s Day, and yours truly, Sean O’Nelson, is going to get his share.

But in the meantime, check out another week of live music all across the Peninsula.

Port Angeles

■ Tonight at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, the Sundowners host a jam from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. These fellas really know how to have fun!

On Friday and Saturday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band rocks with Southern, classic country rock with a few original tunes thrown into the danceable mix from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ Mister Sister (formerly Big Fine Daddies) rocks the Front Street Alibi, 1605 Front St., Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. After lovely Rachel Jorgensen joined the Daddies, they decided a name change was in order. $3 cover.

■ On Friday at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., BBR with Tom Svornich on drums plays classic rock and ’60s folk tunes at 7 p.m.

■ On Saturday, catch BBR for another evening of classic covers over the years at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 Railroad Ave., at 7 p.m. $5 cover.

■ Also Saturday, the Bohemian Lounge, 632 W. Third St., steps back to the plate of live music with Autumn Electric, Johnny Unicorn and special guests at 8 p.m. It’ll be a night for all ages for $5.

■ On Sunday at The Junction Roadhouse, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112 five miles west of Port Angeles, Chantilly Lace hosts the Junction Jam from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Next Wednesday, banjo craftsman Jason Mogi and bassist Paul Stehr-Green play from 
7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ Chuck Grall, Les Wamboldt and the Sound Dogs with special guest Naki’i perform Monday at Smuggler’s Landing, 115 Railroad Ave., from 
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Tonight and every Thursday, Larry and Rene Bauer direct the goings-on at the open mic hosted by the Cracked Bean, 108 DelGuzzi Drive, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesday, Howly Slim picks and grins at Kokopelli Grill, 203 E. Front St., at 6 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally and the Boys playing ballroom dance favorites for the dancing pleasure of all adults 45 years and older from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. 
$5 cover, first-timers free!

■ Victor Reventlow hosts the acoustic jam at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday. Don’t be left out!

On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country will be playing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues with a brew and barbecue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., enjoy the music of Gil Yslas and Rick May from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

On Saturday, dance to the rock of Sequim’s own Turner Brothers Band from 9 p.m. to 
1 a.m. $3 cover.

On Tuesday, prepare yourself for March 17 with Irish Session from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, Jubilee will bring back old favorites for your dining and dancing pleasure from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ Howly Slim plays at Las Palomas Mexican Restaurant, 1065 E. Washington St., on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

■ Every Wednesday at Mugs ‘n’ Jugs Bar and Grill, 735 W. Washington St., Jimmy Hoffman and friends perform unplugged from 7 p.m. to midnight. Donations welcome.

■ At The Buzz, 128 N. Sequim Ave., Kelly Thomas and Victor Reventlow host the very popular and rousing open mic Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday, It’s ALL ABOUT ME (formerly Lorrie and Clipper) performs at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Club Seven Lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, Sammy Eubanks plays blues, country and classic rock along with his own originals from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

It’s been awhile, but the Beatniks are back Saturday with an even more polished ’60s-’70s party and dance band from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, Sammy Eubanks returns for the 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. dance gig.

On Monday, we be jammin’ with host Barry Burnett and friends, so bring your ax and/or vocal talents for the fun from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Friday at the Ajax Cafe, 271 Water St., Gerry Sherman will perform soulful originals on guitar with vocals at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, Jack Reid will play a unique blend of American folk, a little blues, some cowboy music and blue-billy swing at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Jim Nyby performs blues, ballads, jazz and soul at 6 p.m.

■ Ferino’s Pizzeria goes Western with Nevada Slim & Cimarron Sue on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ Tonight at the Upstage, 923 Washington St., Howly Slim and Mike Murray entertain at 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, a variety of music with Under the Radar, Uptown Rulers and the Steve Grandinetti Band, starting at 6:30 p.m., $5 or $2 for youth.

On Saturday, the Damon Fowler Blues Band gets to the down-and-dirty blues at 8 p.m. $12.

Next Wednesday, catch the local, fresh talent of the Port Townsend High Senior Live Music Entertainment Project at 6 p.m. Townsend Live follows at 8 p.m.

■ Deadwood Revival brings country, blues and bluegrass Friday at Sirens, 823 Water St., at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday Howly Slim entertains at 8:30 p.m.

■ Next Wednesday at the Undertown Coffee and Wine Bar, Taylor and Water streets, Cort and Kia Armstrong perform mountain blues and country at 6 p.m.

■ Tonight at The Castle Key, Seventh and Sheridan streets, catch Johnny Z with Sylvia Heins as they jazz it up at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, Casey MacGill & Blue Four Trio perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. $10 cover.

■ Lanza’s Ristorante, 1020 Lawrence St., has music this weekend: George Radebaugh on Friday night and Brian Ellard with his country sounds Saturday. For times and reservations, phone 360-379-1900.

■ The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble continues its popular lunchtime series “Jazz in the Pub” on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the J Building on the main campus in Port Angeles.
