JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC: June music scene bustin’ out all over

JUNE IS HERE and summer is just around the corner, albeit a very long corner, but you can still bring sunshine to your life by getting out and listening or dancing to your favorite music.

Here are the places sunshine awaits.

Port Angeles

• Tonight at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, the Sundowners host a jam from 5 to 8. These fellas really know how to have fun!

On Friday, the versatile classic rock, country and blues band Chantilly Lace plays from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. $3 cover.

On Saturday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band returns for an evening of country rock and high energy dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $3 cover.

• If roots rock and hillbilly blues is your thing, then you’ll enjoy dancin’ to Hambone Wilson on Friday and Saturday at the Junction Roadhouse, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112 five miles west of Port Angeles, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Ol’ Hambone knows how to get you on your feet and onto the dance floor. $5 cover.

Need a ride for this one? All Points Charters and Tours will again be providing safe transportation Friday night. Just phone 360-775-9128 to make a reservation for pickup starting at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, Barry Burnett invites you to come out early and dance to a variety of music during the open mic jam from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Wednesday, Jason Mogi plays from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

• On Saturday, BBR (Barry, Bill and Rudy) return to Wine on the Waterfront, 115 Railroad Ave., for an evening of acoustic rock, blues and folk music from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. $5 cover.

• Coogs Budget CD’s, 111 W. Front St., has the legendary punk rock band from Vancouver, B.C., D.O.A., playing Friday. This is the band all punk rockers take as their inspiration. Beginning at 6 p.m., the opening bands are Elephant Graveyard, Artimus Maximus and The Fixt. All ages are welcome. D.O.A. will be performing their new album “Talk-action=0”. $6 donation requested.

• Dave Secord, Rosalie and the whole Luck of the Draw gang are back at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, west of Port Angeles, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the Tuesday acoustic jam. Don’t be left out!

• On Friday, The Veela Cafe, 133 E. First St., has Jim Lind providing both rock and country, fast and slow from his impressive repertoire, from 7:30 p.m.

• Every Tuesday evening, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers Dance Group presents Wally and the Boys, playing ballroom dance favorites for the dancing pleasure of all dancers 45 years plus, from 7:30 to 9:30 at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets. $5 cover, first timers free!

Sequim and Blyn

• Tonight, don’t miss the jam hosted by Chantilly Lace at the Oasis Sports Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., from 7 to 11.

Any Thursday night you’ll find some of the best jammers from your favorite bands.

Classic rock and country from the ’50s and ’60s, blues and pop from later decades are all in the broad repertoire honed over 35 years.

Jammers come in early and sign in on the sign-up sheet.

On Saturday, Ditch Digger plays from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Next Wednesday, Final Approach lands with its trademark “boomer music” from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

• The First Friday Art Walk features at Damiana’s Best Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., the music of Kevin Magner, Mary Pender and Scott Bradley from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• At The Buzz, 128 N. Sequim Ave., Kelly Thomas hosts the very popular open mic Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

• On Friday, Joey James Dean goes solo at Stymies Bar and Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

• Rock it up Friday at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, in the Club Seven Lounge, with Sequim’s own Turner Brothers Band from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, Hell’s Belles are back for a concert from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. These gals will really blow you away.

On Monday, Savoy Nights will get you on the dance floor from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Come out and dance till you can’t.

Port Hadlock

• Tonight at the Ajax Cafe, 271 Water St., Buzz Rogowski plays jazz and originals on piano from 6.

On Sunday, Jim Nyby plays blues, ballads, jazz, and soul from 5:30 p.m.

Port Townsend

• Tonight at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., Bill Shephers and Friends plays rags, roots, and more from 7:30 and also playing will be the ‘G’ String Quartet and Below the Salt. $5 cover.

On Friday, acclaimed slide guitarist and modern singer-songwriter David Jacobs-Strain and the Crunk Mountain Boys plays from 8 p.m. $10 cover, youth and young adults $5.

On Saturday, Jim Nyby and the F Street Band plays from 8 p.m. $6 cover.

On Sunday, Laura Lee Nastri and Friends perform in a children’s CD release party of “Flying Turtles” from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. $8 cover, $5 if with dinner.

Next Wednesday, the most award-winning guitarist in recent memory, David Grier, will be playing from 7:30 p.m. $10 cover.

• On Friday, local pop rock group The Solvents, rocks Water Street Brewing & Alehouse, 639 Water St., from 9 p.m. Cover.

On Saturday, The Zeke Wakefield Band plays funk and blues from 9 p.m. Cover.

• Port Townsend Brewing Co., 330 10th St., hosts the Fisher King on Friday at 5 p.m.

Chuck Easton entertains with jazz Sunday at 3 p.m.

• The flying fiddle of violin virtuoso Geoffrey Castle invades Manresa Castle’s Castle Key, Seventh and Sheridan streets, Saturday, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. $10 cover.

• You might try a pick of Blackberry Bushes for some juicy progressive Americana on Friday at 9 p.m. in Sirens, 823 Water St., $5.

On Saturday, Sirens keeps up the Americana theme with the Sour Mash Hug Band, 9 p.m., $5.

• Undertown, 211 Taylor St., invites you to bring a song to sing, when The Knitters entertain Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Crow Quill Night Owls liven up the night with a jug band and ragtime Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
