PORT ANGELES — For its final main stage production of the 2018 season, the Port Angeles Community Players present “Lend Me a Tenor,” a modern comedy and classic farce directed by Mark and Danielle Lorentzen.
The play runs from tonight through May 13, at 7:30 tonight and Saturday night, as well as May 1, 4, 5, 8 and 11. It will be performed at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6 and 13. Performances are at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Tickets are $15 adults, $8 students; Tuesdays $15 reserved and $8 at the door, and available at Brocante Antiques, 105 W. First St., Port Angeles or online at http://www.pacommunity players.com/.
It features Alison Cobb and Jennifer Saul, both of Sequim, as well as several actors seen on the Olympic Theater Arts stage such as Ron Graham, Angela Poynter and Randy Powell. The cast also includes Kathleen Balducci, Richard Stephens and Josh McLean.
Written by Ken Ludwig and set in September 1934, the play tells the story of Henry Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Co., welcoming the world famous Tito Morelli, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello.
The star arrives late and through a series of mishaps is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. However, the show must go on, and it does.
“True to Ludwig’s style, this play will have you laughing hysterically at the fast-paced dialogue and split-second timing,” co-director Mark Lorentzen said.
The play, which premiered in 1986, was nominated for nine Tony Awards and won two for Best Director and Best Actor. It was later revived on Broadway in 2010 with three more Tony nominations and won the Tony for Best Revival. It also won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Comedy of the year.
