A Peninsula Long Rifle rendezvous, a visit from a tall ship and a hoedown are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

SEQUIM

Long rifle meet

SEQUIM — Members of the public are invited to the Peninsula Long Rifles’ 45th annual rendezvous today through Sunday.

Admission is free for spectators at the group’s property off Taylor Cutoff Road.

Each day will feature rifle, pistol, trade gun, knife and hawk as well as primitive archery events from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Saturday will feature a steak dinner, followed by a pancake breakfast Sunday morning.

Event organizers ask that attendees haul out any trash they bring, as there is no trash service on site.

Tall ship visit

SEQUIM — The Lady Washington tall ship will visit the John Wayne Marina through Sunday.

The ship will offer family-oriented adventure sales with demonstrations of tall-ship handling, sea chantey singing and maritime storytelling from the marina at 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.

Tickets are required for all passengers, including babes in arms.

Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Garage and plant sale

SEQUIM — The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital will host its 11th annual Garage and Plant Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday at 81 Timothy Lane.

A two-bedroom condo furniture suite will be featured in addition to a wide selection of housewares and plants.

There also will be hot dogs and beverages.

All proceeds will help cover uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

SEQUIM — The public is invited to two free concerts featuring the faculty and students of the Dungeness Music Workshop from 7 to 9 tonight and Saturday night.

The Saturday concert will be at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road.

The performers will play choral pieces, jazz and big-band pieces.

100th year picnic

SEQUIM — Pilgrim Chapter 157, Order of the Eastern Star, will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a picnic at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The picnic will be at 322 Clark Road and hosted by Robert Clark, a member for more than 50 years.

The entire Masonic family is invited, including OES, Masons, Shriners, Rainbow, DeMolay and Job’s Daughters.

Festivities will include food, fellowship, speakers and entertainment provided by Buck Ellard’s musical group.

Those interested in learning more about the Masonic family and Eastern Star are invited to come by between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Film screening

SEQUIM — The Sequim Library will host a free screening of the documentary “Landfill Harmonic” at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The screening will be at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The public is invited to the film, which “follows the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of garbage,” according to a news release.

Free concert

SEQUIM — The Sequim Library will host Mo Phillips for a performance of his brand of kid’s music at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Kids and families are invited to the concert at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Hailing from Portland, Ore., Phillips plays “a fine, distilled blend of Americana, soul and blues that is not afraid of a poppy hook or straight rockin’ out,” according to a news release.

Poet to read

PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwind Reading Series will feature “An Evening with Jerry Martien” at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The reading will be at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

The suggested donation is $5. All proceeds will support the Northwind Arts Center.

Martien lives in the Humboldt Bay region, where he has worked as a book clerk, doorman, poet in the schools, carpenter and occasional Humboldt State writing instructor.

He has served on many boards and committees, advocating environmental and social justice, and often reads his poetry at public meetings and ceremonies.

He is the author of several chapbooks and a collection, “Pieces in Place,” as well as personal essays and two histories of money, “Shell Game” and most recently “The Price of a Life: Shell, Gold, Carbon Notes & Weed.”

Paper marbling

PORT TOWNSEND — The next Northwind Book Arts Group meeting will focus on paper marbling with Diane Thierry of Watermark Bindery of Marrowstone Island at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

“What I’ve Learned Thus Far: Marrowstone Binder Explores Paper Marbling” will be at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

Thierry, in partnership with her husband, Viktor Grabner, has been teaching herself the art of paper marbling while discovering that there are no rules. More than a show-and-tell, not quite a how-to, this program will focus on one person’s entry into the world of surface design.

The Northwind Book Arts Group is dedicated to exploring and cultivating contemporary aesthetic interpretations of the book as art. Meetings are open to the public.

CHIMACUM — The Arcora Foundation — formerly the Washington Dental Service Foundation — SmileMobile will be available Monday through Friday, July 28.

The truck — a 39-foot dental clinic on wheels — will provide dental access to children up to 18 years old at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, on Monday and Tuesday.

From Wednesday through July 28, the truck will be available for follow-up treatment appointments.

SmileMobile accepts Medicaid insurance and provides a sliding-fee scale.

Play auditions

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players will hold tryouts for the first play of the 65th season for the play “Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain” at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Tryouts will held be at the community playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Five women ages 20 to 60 are needed for this play, set in the break room of a small bank in Mississippi.

According to a news release: “ ‘Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain’ eavesdrops on the conversations of women who have for too long defined themselves in terms of their romantic relationships.”

The play will be on stage Sept. 22 to Oct. 8 on Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons.

Rehearsals will begin in early August.

Septic systems

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Environmental Health Specialist Janine Reed will discuss how to protect and maintain septic systems through proper landscaping at noon Thursday.

The free hourlong presentation in the county commissioners’ meeting room (160) in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., is part of the Green Thumb Garden Tips education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners.

Reed will explain how soils help treat sewage. She will present information on gardening and planting around septic failures due to tree roots infiltrating the pipes or overwatering a drain field.

Western hoedown

FORKS — The public is invited to the fourth annual Western Hoedown & Elks Family Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Each of the first 100 children will receive a cowboy hat, bandana and badge at the Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road.

Featured at the event will be hay rides, archery, gem panning, feed the pig, shoo the crows and face painting.

Veteran support group

FORKS — U.S. military veterans are invited to join Marine Corps veteran Rick Seguin for a 12-step program starting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Forks Community Center.

Meetings will continue each Monday at the center, 91 Maple Ave.

The free program will follow the structure of an AA or Narcotics Anonymous meeting but will be focused on veterans.

It is intended to help individuals regain control of their lives and move forward in a healthful, clean and sober environment.

Elks bingo

FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge will hold Tuesday night bingo games.

Early bird sessions will start at 6:30 p.m. with regular bingo at 7 p.m. at the lodge, 941 Merchants Road.

Benefit concert

SEKIU — Members of the public are invited to a benefit concert for the Sekiu Community Center’s baby grand piano at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is free, though donations are accepted to the concert at the community center, 42 Rice St.

Seven performers from Washington and Oregon will perform a variety of genres including blues, classical, folk and jazz.

Refreshments will be served.

Funds generated from the concert will benefit upkeep and maintenance for the center’s baby grand piano.
