NEAH BAY — The 82nd annual Makah Days Celebration ends today with a street fair, races and softball and Slahal finals.
The three-day celebration of Makham culture featured dances, games, a parade and a street fair.
The theme this year was “All My Relations.”‘
The street fair opens at 8 a.m. today with 60 vendors that include artists from the Makah tribe, Canada, South America and other parts of the United States, said Nan Taylor, vendor organizer.
A large variety of food wil also be hand.
At 10 a.m., the Men’s, Women’s and Buckskin races are to begin.
At noon, the softball finals will start.
And at 1 p.m. will be the Slahal finals at Front Beach.
Slahal is a Klallam word for a traditional stick game that involves gambling and singing, said Jean Vitalis, organizer of this year’s tournament.
One game can last anywhere from 15 minutes to hours on end, Vitalis said.
The winning team of the Slahal tournament will take home the grand prize of $1,500 and wagers won throughout the tournament, she said.
