PORT ANGELES — Melissa D. Parkhurst will present “To Win the Indian Heart” at 7 p.m. today.
Parkhurst will speak over Zoom as part of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church’s observance of Native American Heritage Month.
Parkhurst, an associate professor of ethnomusicology at Washington State University in Pullman, is the author of “To Win the Indian Heart: Music at Chenawa Indian School.”
Her presentation will discuss the music programs at the school and their impact on students.
The Chenawa Indian School, near Salem, Ore., is the oldest continuously operating Native American boarding school in the United States.
