Advance care planning

SEQUIM — Olympic Medical Center will present a program on advance care planning at 1 p.m. today at Clallam Bay Library, 16990 Highway 112.

The free one-hour program will also be presented at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. and at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.

Topics will include durable powers of attorney for health care, health care directives and physician orders for life-sustaining treatment.

Each presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

FORKS — The Forks Congregational Church will offer free dance lessons at 7 p.m. today.

Donations are welcome to offset traveling expenses for the teachers.

Chili cook-off

PORT ANGELES — Mount Olympus Detachment, Marine Corps League, will host a chili cook-off from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds from the cook-off, at the county’s veteran center, 261 S. Francis St., will support the Marine Corps League and the 2018 Clallam County Toys for Tots campaign.

The event is open to all veterans and their families; donations will be accepted at the door.

SEQUIM — Welfare of Animals Group (WAG) will hold its inaugural Dogtober Fest from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds will support WAG’s ongoing efforts to shelter stray, surrendered and abandoned dogs; provide medical attention and training with the goal of placing dogs into new homes.

Partisanship discussed

SEQUIM — The next meeting of Sequim “We, the People” is set from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The gathering will be at The Lodge at Sherwood Village, 660 Evergreen Way.

The initial topic for discussion is partisanship, though group facilitator George Lindamood notes, “In light of the rapidly changing character of the political situation(s) in the U.S. and the world, it is difficult to specify a topic in advance, but we can be reasonably sure that partisanship will play a prominent role in whatever is happening.”

Another future meeting of “We, the People” is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17.

Although these discussions are hosted by The Lodge in response to interest expressed by Sherwood Village residents, they are open to the community.

Lighthouse meeting

SEQUIM — The New Dungeness Light Station Association invites those interested in the history and future of Sequim’s historic lighthouse to attend the group’s annual meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The meeting will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Visitors can learn about opportunities available for those who would like to help on work parties while staying at the lighthouse. All skill levels are encouraged to join.

Refreshments will be served and visitors can enter a drawing for a free week-long stay for two at the lighthouse.

The New Dungeness Light Station has been in continuous operation since 1857 and is the oldest lighthouse on the Strait of Juan de Fuca and second oldest in Washington.

During a recent workweek, a group of 13 volunteers spent a week power washing the buildings, repairing fences, sprucing up the landscaping, painting, repairing gutters and deep-cleaning all of the facilities.

Sequim Elks bingo

SEQUIM — Sequim Elks will hold bingo games from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Boffer swordplay

PORT HADLOCK — Chaz Hillyard will coach boffer swordplay and exercise from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today.

The free exercise program will be at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave.

According to a news release, boffer sword play is a physical sport with light contact, similar in intensity to soccer and a pillow fight combined.

Boffers, constructed of foam-wrapped PVC pipe and duct tape, are used in live-action role-playing games and mock combat.

Boffers are provided by the library for anyone who can’t bring one.

This after-school activity attracts kids and teens ages 6 to 18.

Audubon walk
