Memorial weekend walk

PORT LUDLOW — The public is invited to Chimacum Woods’ Memorial Day weekend free garden walk event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The 7-acre rhododendron nursery at 2722 Thorndyke Road will be available for walkthroughs.

Bob Zimmermann will be available to answer rhody questions.

PORT TOWNSEND

Mantra concert

PORT TOWNSEND — The Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center will feature mantra artists Jaya Lakshmi and Ananda from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The musical duo will offer kirtan — a version of call-and-response singing — as well as original compositions at the center, 3918 San Juan Ave.

The cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

By utilizing alternating guitar, harmonium, keyboard, bansuri flutes and vocal weaving, they create a profound healing and balanced sound brimming with devotion, according to a news release.

The duo will be accompanied by Ankush Vimawala on tabla.

Spring sing

PORT TOWNSEND — The PT Songlines Choir will hold concerts at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to benefit local organizations.

Tickets are available for a suggested $15 donation at the performances at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St.

Saturday’s concert will benefit Local 20/20, which is dedicated to working toward sustainability and community resilience. Sunday’s concert will benefit Key City Public Theatre.

Orphan benefit concert

PORT TOWNSEND — Pianist Lisa Lanza will bring together Port Townsend musicians to raise money for the education of a selected group of AIDS orphans in Uganda at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Fraud prevention class

CHIMACUM — Kitsap Bank, in partnership with Dove House Advocacy Services and Home Instead Senior Services, will offer a free elder fraud prevention class from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. today.

Jackie McVay, senior vice president and chief information officer, will speak at the class held in the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road.

She will focus on preventing financial abuse in the technology spectrum.

Proceeds will benefit community grants.

Strait Turners

GARDINER — The next meeting of the Strait Turners woodturners group will be from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.

Richard “Dick” Bumgarner will demonstrate the embellishing of end-grain vessels using the Sorby Sovereign System plus some homemade tools.

End of life

SEQUIM — Author Kate Riley will read select passages from her book “Launching Vee’s Chariot: An End-of-Life Tale” today at 4 p.m. at the Sequim Library.

Following the readings, she will lead a participatory discussion on the end of life at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Riley is a certified death midwife, minister, educator, advocate, international story consultant and author.

She completed her hospice training in 1988.

SEQUIM — Sequim High School’s Class of 2018 will sponsor a dog wash from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today just outside of the high school cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Dogs will be washed by donation.

A bake sale also will be held.

Proceeds from these endeavors will help fund the class of 2018’s senior year activities.

Open house

PORT ANGELES — The city’s Public Works and Utilities Department will hold an open house at its new downtown wastewater Pump Station No. 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today.

The successful completion of the new pump station at 314 Marine Drive is a major step forward in completing the Combined Sewer Overflow Reduction Program, the city said in a news release.

Since the station was put into operation Sept. 15, 2016, the city has had no combined sewer overflows into Port Angeles Harbor, when normally there would have been more than 25 million gallons of overflow, the city said.

Light refreshments will be served.

Hoarding seminar

PORT ANGELES — The public is invited to a seminar featuring two speakers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at The Landing mall.

Dr. Jennifer Sampson and Terina Bainter will speak about the mental health aspects of hoarding at the mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave.

The conference is $90.

Organizers said hoarding is believed to affect people at a higher rate than OCD, schizophrenia and other mental health conditions.

Sampson is a licensed marriage and family therapist as well as the executive director of The Hoarding Project.

Bainter is a professional organizer and the owner of Clutter Cutters LLC, which serves Pierce and South King counties.

Four continuing education units, approved by LeadingAge, will be offered for attendance at this presentation.

Registration is required for the seminar.

PORT ANGELES — The Second Street Neighborhood Watch will meet for a follow-up meeting from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The topic will be “Community Oriented Policing [COP] and Neighborhood Empowerment.”

FCCLA garage sale

FORKS — Forks High School’s chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America will host a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday to help fund a trip to a national competition.

Students will hold the sale at the Forks High School Commons, 261 S. Spartan Ave.

The sale will help fund three students’ trip to the competition.

Tuesday night bingo

FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge will host bingo games at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Early bird sessions will start at 6:30 p.m. and regular bingo will start at 7 p.m. at the lodge, 941 Merchants Road.
