A spaghetti dinner, drag racing in Forks and pancakes in Joyce are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

‘Paws to Read’

FORKS — Members of the public are invited to read with service dogs at the Forks Library at 11 a.m. today.

Every second Tuesday of the month, Olympic Gentle Paws Therapy dogs and their trainers will be available at the library, 171 N. Forks Ave., until noon.

According to a news release, “Reading to a dog or other pet creates a supportive and fun environment in which readers of all ages and abilities can practice their skills with confidence and joy.”

Museum fundraiser

FORKS — The Forks Timber Museum will host a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Forks Congregational Church, 280 S. Spartan Ave.

Funds raised will support the Forks Timber Museum.

Donations are being sought.

West End Thunder

FORKS — The season’s last West End Thunder drag races are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with the gates opening at 8:30 a.m.

Admission is $10 and children age 12 and younger are admitted free.

All persons entering the grounds at the Forks Municipal Airport on U.S. Highway 101 must sign a liability release.

FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge will offer bingo games Tuesday at the lodge, 941 Merchants Road.

Benefit breakfast

JOYCE — The Crescent Bay Lions Club will host a benefit breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

The public is invited to the breakfast at the Lions’ clubhouse, 181 Holly Hill Road.

The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.

The menu includes eggs cooked to order, pancakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, ham, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea and orange juice.

All proceeds will go to the Crescent Bay Lions Club for scholarships and community projects.

Parents Night Out

PORT ANGELES — Clallam Parent to Parent will host a Parents Night Out at 5:30 tonight.

The gathering will be at Sergio’s Hacienda, 205 E. Eighth St.

Parent to Parent is a support group for parents raising children with special needs.

The organization meets to discuss and share information about dealing with difficult parenting situations, furthering advocacy for children, how to obtain respite for caregivers and finding support for emotional and self-care issues.

No reservation is needed.

The next Parents Night Out is scheduled for Oct. 19 at Baja Cantina, 521 W. Washington St., Sequim.

Dinner, auction

PORT ANGELES — Fairview Grange, 161 Lake Farm Road, will host a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The all-you-can-eat dinner costs $10 and it will be free for children younger than 12. It will include spaghetti, bread, salad and ice cream.

The dinner will be followed by a dessert auction at 6 p.m.

Donated desserts for the auction will be appreciated; all proceeds will go toward a new septic system at the Grange.

Boffer swordplay

PORT HADLOCK — Chaz Hillyard will coach boffer swordplay and exercise from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today.

The free exercise program will be at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave.

According to a news release, boffer sword play is a physical sport with light contact, similar in intensity to soccer and a pillow fight combined.

Boffers, constructed of foam-wrapped PVC pipe and duct tape, are used in live-action role-playing games and mock combat.

Boffers are provided by the library for anyone who can’t bring one.

This after-school activity attracts kids and teens ages 6 to 18.
