The DAISY Foundation has recognized Thomas Batey with its DAISY award.

Batey is a registered nurse in the Short Stay Unit at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. The award recognizes extraordinary, compassionate care provided to patients and families. The foundation, which takes its name from the acronym Diseases Attacking the Immune System, was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of the auto-immune disease idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
