WEEKEND: ‘Flirty bluegrass’ trio to play in Port Ludlow

PORT LUDLOW — Three women who make what’s known as “flirty bluegrass” music are soon to arrive on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The Good Lovelies, a Toronto-based trio and the winner of Canada’s revered Juno award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year in 2010, will sing and play at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Way, this Sunday.

Showtime is 4 p.m., and tickets, through the Performing Arts in Port Ludlow series, are $24.

Under the Mistletoe

In a show they call “Under the Mistletoe,” the Good Lovelies revisit the “Chipmunk’s Christmas Song” and then revamp “Blue Christmas,” making it into an old-school country song.

The women also give “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” a Western swing makeover and offer a sultry, jazz-infused “Santa Baby.”

Then, for a change of pace, they sing “Silent Night” the traditional way.

The Lovelies also like to play and swap instruments: Caroline Brooks wields guitar, baritone ukulele and banjo; Sue Passmore plays percussion, ukulele and guitar; and Kerri Ough plays guitar, banjo, ukulele and percussion.
