WEEKEND — Olympic Music Festival winds up with ‘West Side Story’ and classics

QUILCENE — For the last Olympic Music Festival concerts of the summer, two young pianists will step inside a century-old dairy barn to offer four beloved works — Leonard Bernstein’s Suite from “West Side Story,” Ravel’s “La Valse,” Brahms’ “Variations on a Theme by Haydn” and Stravinsky’s “Petrouchka.”

The pair of performers, Julio Elizalde and Michael Brown, are both graduates of New York City’s Juilliard School, and have collaborated before, with Brown as composer and Elizalde as the pianist playing them with the New Trio.

The piano-four-hands concerts both start at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Olympic Music Festival farm, 7360 Center Road, where the venue is the restored dairy barn.

Music lovers may choose to sit inside on cushioned pews or hay bales, or loll on the grass outside, where the farm sound system broadcasts the pianos.

As during every Olympic Music Festival weekend since the concerts began in June, patrons are invited to come early to stroll around the 55-acre farm, picnic and shop in the Milking Shed, aka the store full of snacks, drinks, CDs and souvenirs.

Farm gates open at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; barn doors open at 1 p.m. and the dress is definitely casual.
