Vitaae is an anti-aging formula created by SANE.
The supplement contains citicoline and other ingredients linked to cognitive health. By taking Vitaae daily, you can purportedly support brain energy, mental clarity, concentration, and mood.
Does Vitaae really work? Find out everything you need to know about this supplement today in our review.
What is Vitaae?
Vitaae is a cognitive supplement created by SANE. SANE is a nutritional supplement company known for its nutritional supplements, SANE diet program, and other products.
SANE claims that by taking three capsules of Vitaae daily, you can increase brain energy utilization by 13.6%, increase membrane turnover by 26%, and improve mental clarity, among other benefits. Just take one capsule of Vitaae per day to give your body the nutrients it needs to support good cognition.
SANE claims many of us develop a “leaky brain” as we get older. Just like some people develop a leaky gut, others develop a leaky brain. If you have noticed a slowing metabolism, brain fog, memory low, anxiety, mood issues, or low energy, then you could have a leaky brain, according to the team at SANE.
All nootropic supplements claim to target cognition in various ways. Some work, while others do not.
How Does Vitaae Work?
SANE describes Vitaae as “the world’s first-ever clinically proven brain-boosting memory protecting formula.”
Typically, nootropics don’t complete clinical trials. It’s rare for supplement companies to invest in clinical trials. They’re expensive and complicated. Most supplement companies cite third-party research. However, SANE insists that their formula is specifically “clinically proven” to support cognition in various ways – something few other supplements can claim.
The Vitaae product page also features endorsements from Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins, Yale, and the Mayo Clinic. This is slightly misleading: doctors from these institutions have endorsed the SANE diet, but they have not publicly endorsed Vitaae. It’s possible they would endorse Vitaae, but we can find no evidence of doctors from these institutions specifically recommending Vitaae for brain health.
In any case, SANE claims anyone who takes Vitaae could enjoy the following benefits:
- 13.6% increase in brain energy utilization
- 26% increase in membrane turnover
- Improved mental clarity
- Deeper concentration
- Better moods
- Protection for your most precious memories
SANE claims Vitaae can help with memory, focus, attention, and overall energy, among other effects. Many people experience brain fog as they get older. Vitaae targets this brain fog and supports your cognitive energy. Others experience forgetfulness.
In fact, Vitaae claims to protect brain health by supporting clarity, focus, and memory by up to 90%, which could help you deal with symptoms of a leaky brain.
Do You Have a Leaky Brain?
SANE has popularized the use of the phrase “leaky brain.” It’s a phrase we haven’t seen with other nutritional supplement companies or nootropics.
According to SANE, many people develop a leaky brain as they get older.
Some people have a leaky brain because of poor diet and exercise habits. Others experience cognitive decline as a natural consequence of getting older.
SANE claims people who experience the following symptoms may have a leaky brain:
- Brain fog and memory loss
- A slowing metabolism
- Low energy
- Anxiety, depression, and mood swings
Most people experience these symptoms regularly, even if they don’t have a condition like brain fog. However, SANE claims Vitaae could help these symptoms, delivering powerful benefits for you and your brain.
Vitaae Ingredients
Vitaae, like other SANE supplements, uses a small blend of strong ingredients. Instead of using dozens of weak ingredients (like some low-quality nootropics), SANE has added a handful of proven nootropics to its formula.
Key ingredients in Vitaae and how they work include:
Folate: The folate in Vitaae can purportedly help reverse neurological inflammation, according to SANE. Folate is a B vitamin crucial for red and white blood cell production. It also transforms carbs into energy, produces DNA and RNA, and performs other important functions. SANE uses a specific version of folate called Magnafolate, which they describe as a “superior patented form of folate that is bioavailable to all humans, including those with MTHFR gene mutations.” That means your body could absorb more of the active ingredients.
L-Carnitine: Vitaae contains two versions of L-carnitine, including L-carnitine tartrate and acetyl-l-carnitine. Both ingredients are commonly found in other nutritional supplements, including everything from nootropics to bodybuilding supplements. SANE claims the L-carnitine in Vitaae will increase lean muscle, reduce total fat mass, decrease fatigue, and improve cognitive function, among other benefits.
Cognizin Citicoline: Citicoline is a popular nootropic ingredient linked to memory formation and other effects. SANE uses a specific proprietary version of citicoline called Cognizin. The company claims this ingredient can boost the brain, provide anti-aging benefits, increase brain energy utilization, and decrease memory loss, among other benefits.
CoQ10: Coenzyme Q10 is found in anti-aging supplements, nootropics, and even skin creams. It appears to have antioxidant effects within the body and mind, helping clear up brain fog. SANE claims their CoQ10 “sparks energy within your cells” and “improves brain health,” among other effects. The company uses a proprietary version of CoQ10 called MicroActive.
Vitamin D: Vitamin D is crucial for brain health and overall health and wellness. Vitaae contains a significant vitamin D dose, giving you 125 mcg (625% of your Daily Value) of vitamin D in each three capsule serving. Studies show that deficient people in vitamin D tend to have poorer immune health, brain function, and overall health and wellness than people who get their daily recommended dose.
Other Ingredients: Vitaae also contains fish oil (with EPA and DHA fatty acids), gymnemic acid, and Gymnema Sylvestre leaf extract. All of these ingredients can support cognition in various ways.
Scientific Evidence for Vitaae
SANE markets Vitaae as “the world’s first-ever clinically proven brain-boosting memory protecting formula.” The product page also prominently features logos for Harvard, Yale, the Mayo Clinic, and other major institutions. Based on all of this information, you might assume Vitaae has clinical studies or research from prestigious institutions verifying its effectiveness.
That’s not totally true. SANE has not completed any clinical trials specifically on Vitaae. The company has not published its research in peer-reviewed journals, nor have they personally tested humans’ or animals’ ingredients.
Instead, SANE cites studies from third-party researchers to verify its advertised claims. The company cites studies on each ingredient within Vitaae. In other words, Vitaae isn’t really “clinically proven,” although it does contain certain ingredients linked to brain health.
In this 1998 study, researchers analyzed coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) effects on brain health in rats. Researchers found that CoQ10 was linked with significant brain benefits in rats. After giving CoQ10 to rats, researchers observed higher brain mitochondrial concentrations, leading to greater cognitive energy levels. Researchers also observed neuroprotective effects, which could mean less inflammation and degradation in the brain.
SANE also cites this 2011 study that reviewed the evidence on CoQ10, concluding that CoQ10 supplements could be “beneficial” in treating various health conditions and diseases. Some studies found that CoQ10 neutralized inflammation in the brain. Other studies linked CoQ10 to mitochondrial activity.
Many nootropics contain citicoline for its purported effects on memory formation and focus. Some studies have verified these benefits, and that’s why citicoline remains one of the most popular nootropic ingredients available today. In this 2015 study, researchers analyzed the effects of citicoline on the brain and found that citicoline could positively affect the brain while playing a role in cognitive impairment. Scientists in that study used the specific proprietary version of citicoline used in Vitaae (called Cognizin).
L-carnitine is found in bodybuilding supplements, brain health supplements, and other products. Studies show that acetyl-l-carnitine could protect the brain, particularly as it develops. This 2018 study analyzed the effects of acetyl-l-carnitine (the same version of L-carnitine used in Vitaae) and found that it could “improve energy status” while also decreasing oxidative stress and preventing subsequent cell death in the brain. Researchers observed these effects in old and young humans.
Rounding out the formula, Vitaae contains a strong dose of vitamin D (625% of your recommended daily value). This 2018 review found that vitamin D deficiency increased the risk of developing dementia. People who did not get enough vitamin D through dietary sources were at a higher risk of developing dementia. Researchers believe vitamin D helps to control neurological inflammation, which could be the reason it impacts cognition.
Overall, the ingredients in Vitaae are backed by science, and Vitaae could support cognitive health in various ways. However, it’s slightly misleading to describe Vitaae as “the world’s first-ever clinically proven” nootropic, as most other nootropics are backed by similar research.
